Muslims under Jamuiyyat Da’awa Assalafiya have given police a 7 days ultimatum to return all their properties and covering all damages caused during raids on different mosques.

A number of mosques have been raided by the police in pretext that these mosques are harboring criminals and castigating rebellious activities against governmet.

On 31st December 2015, police raided Masjid Noor on William Street in the wee hours of the night.

Addressing the press after Juma prayers at Nakasero mosque this afternoon, Kifampa Siraje Nsambu the group’s spokesperson said they lost 50 Million Shillings were stolen from the mosque safes that were broken into.

“The money had been collected from Zakat and other Muslim offering” Mr. Kifampa said.

On 27th December 2016, the police again almost in a similar manner raided Nakasero Mosques the headquarters

JDS. “In a manner that is not befitting any mosque in the world, police entered and broke to pieces property including copies of the holly Qur’an tone into pieces. Hard cash in excess of 60 Million was stolen and arresting 11 of our brothers some of whom are languishing in Luzira. Of course not mentioning similar raids on Kiwatule and Kyaazanga mosques” Kifampa added.

He also explained that Muslim leaders, the Amir Ummah Shk. Yunus Kamoga, Shk. Yahya Mwanje, Shk. Murtadha Bukenya and many other muslim scholars remain incaserated in different prisons battling with unfounded cases in courts of law. He says its highly perturbing for the government to neglect its duty of protecting the lives and property of all Ugandans regardless of their racial, and religious backgrounds.

According to Kifampa, Muslims are peace loving, law abiding citizens and are permanent part of the Ugandan community, and so, entitled to fair and just systems accorded to them just as other communities rather than discriminating against them the way it is today.

“As JDS, we shall not tolerate any further criminal activities by police of theft and vandalizing our properties anymore, failure to do so! We will be left with no choice but to defend ourselves against these terrorist/criminal acts. We are requesting the police of 7 days to return all our properties and covering all damages, or else we shall inform you our next course of action” he concluded.
